Help Wanted

The North Shore Challenge could not be a success without the tireless work of our volunteers.

We need your help for the upcoming year – there is something for everyone. Check out the list to see where we might need help. If you are interested in volunteering for the North Shore Challenge, please email swimlakeerie@gmail.com, or call 519-761-7472. High School students looking for volunteer hours, we can sign off on them, too!

  • Registration & Packages

    An ideal volunteer opportunity if you are looking to help out AND want to swim, we will be meeting the week before the event to pack race kits. The night before and the morning of the event, volunteers will take day-of registrations, and check in swimmers, as well as handing out race kits. Time required: 5-7hrs Volunteers needed: 10

  • On-Water Support

    Do you have a boat? A zodiac? Are you an avid kayaker? Every year, the NSC requires 4-8 power or sail boats, as well as 10-20 kayakers to provide on-water support and a safe perimeter for our swimmers. Time required: 2-4hrs Volunteers needed: 26

  • Swim Ambassadors

    The NSC is on the hunt for swimmers who have participated in the past, and are active in their local swim community, as coaches, masters or age group team members, triathlon club members, officials, etc., to promote the event to your local swimmers. Time required: variable Volunteers needed: variable

  • Parking & Traffic

    Turkey Point is a small coastal community. When 250 swimmers descend upon it on an already-busy summer Sunday, parking and traffic can be a challenge. We are looking for volunteers to help organize parking at the Turkey Point Pavilion and to provide safe crossing of Cedar Drive. Time required: 6hrs Volunteers needed: 10

  • Marketing & Outreach

    NSC is known for its amazing prizes, and this is due to our great local partners donating draw prizes and race kit items. We are looking for local volunteers to contact businesses in the Spring, and to collect prizes in early July. Time required: 6-12hrs in the Spring Volunteers needed: 3

  • Medical & First Aid

    In order to provide a safe environment for our swimmers, we are seeking medical professionals and NLS-certified lifeguards to work alongside OPP marine unit and EMS on-beach support. You would be placed at one of our beaches or on one of our safety craft. Time required: 4hrs Volunteers needed: 4

  • Start & Finish Lines

    Volunteers are needed to marshall swimmers to the start line, start the races (siren), and to collect the timing chips at the finish line. Time required: 1-2hrs. Volunteers needed: 6

  • Set-Up & Clean Up

    Our whole event is set up and torn down in the span of about 18 hours, and is a huge undertaking. If you are able to help us set up the night before, or tear down after the BBQ and awards ceremony, let us know! Time required: 2hrs Volunteers needed: 5
